Granite Sealers

Granite in its natural state is a porous stone. It is susceptible to staining and must be sealed in order to preserve its natural beauty in your home. At Premier Surfaces, we pre-seal your granite countertop so you can enjoy the classic look of beautiful granite, without the hassle of sealing! We are proud to offer a choice of granite sealing solutions to fit your needs and your decorating budget.

You Can Seal Granite for Life

  • TryEpic™ Sealer – Our permanent sealer is highly recommended, and once applied, creates a worry-free, maintenance-free granite countertop! This sealer is chemical resistant, UV resistant and transparent. It also offers a 15-year stain warranty and no other special sealers or cleaners are needed.
  • Our standard sealer is applied to all of our stone. It is a solvent-based sealer and will protect your new granite countertops from staining. However, it is not permanent and should be reapplied every 12 months. Soapy water is recommended for cleaning.
  • We also offer SenSa™ and StoneMark™ sealed stone options. With Premier Surfaces’ granite countertops you have a wide variety of choices for the products you choose to use in your home.

How Granite is Formed

Granite is an intrusive (within the Earth’s crust) igneous rock; the formation occurs by magma flowing into pockets deep beneath the Earth’s surface. Over millions of years it cools and crystallizes. Granite is found all over the world. The more colorful and exotic granite slabs are found in Africa, Brazil, China, Italy and India. Other exporters of granite are Argentina, Egypt, Finland, Iran, Norway, Sardinia, Spain and the Ukraine. Granite is found in abundance in the United States but the colors are more compatible with monument and exterior works.

Granite Facts

  • Granite weighs between 18 and 24 pounds per square foot and is 1.25 inches thick (3cm).
  • It is possible for some finished pieces to weigh in excess of 800 lbs. When the weight is too high we often add an additional crew member to the installation to assist with putting the stone in place.
  • Granite slabs are usually 3cm (1.25 inches) in thickness. They can also come in 2cm, but 3cm is recommended for countertops.
  • Granite slab dimensions are generally up to 68 inches in height and 115 inches in width. It is often necessary to seam pieces since the dimensions of the slab limit the length of an individual piece.

How to Care for Granite

Granite is a natural stone that is considered to be very durable and works well in high traffic areas such as kitchens and bathrooms. However, because it is a natural product it can stain, which is why it is important to take proper care of your granite countertops to keep them looking as beautiful as the day they were installed.

Cleaning Granite Countertops

Everyday cleaning of the granite surface should be done with simple dishwashing soap, rinsed thoroughly with clean water and dried completely using a clean dry cloth. Also, clean up spills as quickly as possible using a blotting technique instead of wiping to avoid spreading the spilled substance. Use soap and water to clean the area, rinse, and then dry with a clean cloth.

Do not use anything on the countertops that you would not use on your hands. Do not use vinegar or anything that may contain ammonia (e.g. Windex), bleach (e.g. Clorox), or specialty bathroom, tile or grout or cleaners that may contain acids. These chemicals could have a bleaching or etching effect on some of the minerals in the stone.

Cleansers Can Dull Granite Surfaces

Do not use any type of cleanser, since the abrasiveness in the cleanser, over time, will remove the final polish from the stone, making it appear dull. Other items that could be detrimental to any stone’s surface are citric acids, oils, wine and ink. The effect is not permanent in granite, but could be in other types of stone, such as marble or travertine countertops since they are calcium carbonate based.

There are daily granite cleaning solutions available if you would like to have something specifically designed for granite.

  • Our kitchen looks awesome!

“I wanted to tell you what a wonderful experience Mike and I had with putting in our granite counters last week. We had never done a make-over before, so when my husband suggested putting in granite counters I groaned.  Little did I know at the time how smooth and painless everyone at Premier Surfaces would make it. Every encounter was extremely professional. Our kitchen looks awesome and I really appreciate having the opportunity to work with such a great group of people. If we ever decide to do anything like that in the future we will use definitely use Premier Surfaces.”

  • Done right the FIRST time!

“I walked in on a Friday, and was surprised to see just how busy they were — always a good sign of how a business is doing. In the process of waiting my turn, a number of people asked if I had been assisted yet. Customer service isn’t something you get in most places these days. I walked around their facility and really got a different feel compared to how I felt at other granite shops. The selection was great, everyone was friendly, and they took the time to teach me about the differences in quality for all of the chioces of a fabricator out there. The professionalism, friendly and incredibly knowledgable staff set them apart from the other “competitors”. My kitchen looks beautiful and the investment in my home was well worth it to have it completed correctly THE FIRST TIME. I will be upgrading a few bathrooms in the future and can’t think of any other granite fabricator I’d rather use.”
