Pre-Installation
Check List
Premier Surfaces will install your new Granite Countertops in
a manner that we hope will exceed your expectations. The following
items are needed prior to templating that includes tearing out
the old countertops. Cabinets must be completely installed prior
to templating.
- Water must be turned off to the faucets.
- Power must be removed
from garbage disposals
- Electricity and gas must be disconnected
from cook top units.
- Old countertops must be removed prior to
templating.
- All base cabinets must be completely emptied.
- Provide the technician
with the sink you have selected, the model of the cook top with
the dimensions for the cutout and the number of faucets and spread
of the faucet holes. The technician will ask you for this information.
- Provide
any other information regarding additional holes to be cut into
the granite countertops and the location, these holes could include
soap dispensers, computer or phone wire access.
- If ordering granite
backsplash, specify the width to be used. The standard width
is four inches. However,
if you are planning on keeping the current
tile, wallpaper or paint on the walls behind the new granite
countertops our four inch standard width may not be sufficient.
Please review this with the Technician to determine what width
will work well for your plans.
- Make certain the Technician reviews
with you the location of any seams that may be necessary for
your project.
The Installers and Template Technicians from Premier
Surfaces are not insured nor licensed to do electrical, plumbing
or cabinetry work. If Premier Surfaces is contracted to tear
out existing countertops please be advised that while our crews
will be as careful as possible there is a risk that walls,
wallpaper or other wall treatments
may be damaged in the process
and that we will not be responsible for repairs to same.
Prior to Installation
of your new Granite Countertops here is How to Prepare Your Home. Granite is a stone and
can weigh up to 20 pounds per square
foot. Consequently, granite countertops are not easy to maneuver.
Here
is what you can do to aid the process:
- Clear the path that
the installers will be using to get to the installation point.
This would include throw rugs, plants, and pet dishes.
- No the
Installers cannot remove their shoes, they are necessary to avoid
slipping while moving the heavy granite.
- Remove any wall hangings
along the pathway
- If you are having a cook top installed we will
have to cut the hole for the cooktop after the piece has been installled in
your kitchen.
The reason for this is that
the narrow edges left at the front and back of a cook top cutout
are not sufficiently strong to support the rest of the granite
during transportation and installation.
These narrow edges would
crack and break before installation could be completed. This
process of cutting the cook top cutout will generate a significant
amount of dust.
So please:
- Seal off adjacent rooms by taping plastic
sheeting or drop cloths to the doorways.
- Place plastic sheeting
over return air inlets for your duct system in the room where
the cutting will take place.
- The Installers will try to minimize
the amount of dust but they will not be able to capture all
of it. The above actions will keep the dust from spreading
to other rooms.
- If you have other contractors working in
your home, please advise them that the granite countertop
is not to be used as a workbench or as a stepladder to reach
items above the countertop.
Premier Surfaces uses steel rod
reinforcements in the front and back of each sink cutout however,
anyone stepping on it can crack that narrow edge.
