Factors to Consider when Estimating the Cost of Granite Counter-tops

Granite countertops are a wise investment that will add beauty to your home and increase its value. That’s why they are a popular upgrade for homeowners. Natural granite can provide years of style and durability in bathrooms, kitchens and other areas of your home.

Remember that if you shop only for the lowest price granite and installation costs, you likely get what you pay for. It’s worth the investment to choose the best quality stone cut by experienced fabricators and installed by experienced professionals.

As one of the top sellers of granite countertops, Premier Surfaces understands how important it is to estimate the cost of your granite kitchen and bathroom countertops as accurately as possible.

Measuring the Countertop Space

Granite is not inexpensive, so you do not want to order more than you need. On the other hand, if you do not order enough, you will have to order additional material. This costs both money and time. That’s why correctly measuring the spaces is essential.

To measure how much stone you will need for your bathroom or kitchen countertops:

  • Measure the length and width of each section of countertop.
  • Multiply the length by the width to get the total surface area measurement in square inches.
  • Add all of the individual section measurements together. This will give you the total square inches of stone you will need for the room.
  • Convert that measurement from square inches into square feet. To do that, divide the total number of square inches by 144 (12 multiplied by 12.)

Selecting the Granite

Now it’s time to go shopping!

As you look at stone slabs, you’ll see that they are priced by square foot. Simply multiply your total square footage by the price per square foot of the natural granite you are looking at.

When you shop in one of Premier Surfaces’ showrooms in Atlanta, Birmingham and Chattanooga, our granite countertop experts will help you find a stone that fits your budget and answer any and all questions you have about the fabrication and installation process. You’ll get to choose the exact slab that will be cut to make your new granite countertops. We even offer our customers a chance to approve the layout of the granite slab before it is cut, using high-resolution photographs.

Installation Fees

These need to be factored into the total cost of your remodel as well. At Premier Surfaces, we employ our own experienced installers instead of contracting out the job. Therefore, we can tell you upfront what your installation costs will be.

Because we use a laser templating process, our installers can have your new countertops installed in about half the time that many other installers may take. That saves you money. Our average installation takes just one half-day.

At Premier Surfaces, we want to help ensure that our customers order the correct amount of stone. If you have any questions when measuring your countertops, call one of the experts in our showrooms, and they will be happy to help. Then, be sure to come in and look at our wide selection of stone. We think you’ll find the perfect stone for both your decor and budget needs.

  • Our kitchen looks awesome!

“I wanted to tell you what a wonderful experience Mike and I had with putting in our granite counters last week. We had never done a make-over before, so when my husband suggested putting in granite counters I groaned.  Little did I know at the time how smooth and painless everyone at Premier Surfaces would make it. Every encounter was extremely professional. Our kitchen looks awesome and I really appreciate having the opportunity to work with such a great group of people. If we ever decide to do anything like that in the future we will use definitely use Premier Surfaces.”

  • Done right the FIRST time!

“I walked in on a Friday, and was surprised to see just how busy they were — always a good sign of how a business is doing. In the process of waiting my turn, a number of people asked if I had been assisted yet. Customer service isn’t something you get in most places these days. I walked around their facility and really got a different feel compared to how I felt at other granite shops. The selection was great, everyone was friendly, and they took the time to teach me about the differences in quality for all of the chioces of a fabricator out there. The professionalism, friendly and incredibly knowledgable staff set them apart from the other “competitors”. My kitchen looks beautiful and the investment in my home was well worth it to have it completed correctly THE FIRST TIME. I will be upgrading a few bathrooms in the future and can’t think of any other granite fabricator I’d rather use.”
