Taking Your Granite Countertops to the Next Level
Granite in its natural state is considered a high-end stone, however, there are some sub-types that definitely stand apart from many of the standard-colored slabs you may already by familiar with. These kitchen countertops tend to incorporate precious gemstones, which as you know can be incredibly appealing on an aesthetic scale, not to mention expensive, depending of course on the type and number of gems infused into the slab.
If you have a hefty remodeling budget available and are ready and willing to splurge on a stylish new set of countertops then this is certainly one product to consider.
The process of making gemstone-infused kitchen countertops begins with prepared stone that has been embedded in an epoxy resin base. The individual stones are arranged in various patterns but are placed next to one another much like they would be on walls and flooring. The resin coating prevents the countertops from being damaged by heat, UV rays and staining, ensuring the gemstones retain their flawless color and luster.
Manufacturers can also mix in bits and pieces of silver, gold and other precious metals, although these types of countertops are typically made a bit differently. To do this, pieces of the slabs comprised of the metals are molded to wooden bases.
